[Star Wars - A Different Take]

The other look at the phenomenon.

Welcome to Star Wars - A Different Take, the website which, completely superfluously, takes a critical look at the media exposure of Star Wars as a whole, and the exposure on the Internet in particular. Indeed, these pages wants to expose the ugly underbelly of Star Wars on the Internet.

This site is divided into the following sections:

The Foundation for Worried Star Wars Fans, the page that exposes what are possibly the worst Star Wars sites in the galaxy. Actively participate in trying to shut them down and make the world a better place.

Star Wars Fan Fiction. This section seems to speak for itself, but it doesn't. Instead of creeping into the thoughts of Darth Vader the moment he throws the Emperor down the reactor shaft, this fan fiction page isn't written by obsessive fans. No-fan Fiction is a better name.

Star Wars Almost Humour currently not available. This might be considered humour, though it may not be. Perhaps only for true fans of Andy Kaufmann.

Episodes II & III Synopsis. Even I cannot resist the temptation to think about what Episodes II and III will be like. This is not a script, and there are just a handful of characters mentioned. However, this is a complete, but summarised, story.

How it can be done. Five sites on the Internet which show how a good Star Wars page can be constructed.

The most beautifully designed:
Jedi Net. One of the most comprehensive Star Wars sites. Updates are often not that interesting, but the message forum is absolutely the best. Also home of Evan's Cinema.

The most complete:
TheForce.net. Updates about 24 hours a day with detailed news and has items relating to Star Wars in the broadest sense. Hosts the Virtual Edition and the excellent TROOPS.

The most intelligent:
Actually, this one is a tie between:
B-squared's Star Wars Stuff and
Star Wars Technical Commentaries.
Looks can be deceiving, as despite appearances, these two are the most brilliant sites on the Internet, showing what the medium was originally intended to be: a source for background information. In this case, Star Wars background information. B-squared's Star Wars Stuff takes a critical and sensible look at Star Wars items ranging from the Millennium Falcon to Jedi robes and from the military tactics of the Trade Federation to R2D2. Have a look at his page on Myth in Star Wars - it's excellent. Star Wars Technical Commentaries looks at the larger warships as well as the technical aspects of Hyperspace, the injuries of Darth Vader and the Endor Holocaust.

The funniest:
POFToo!!! The funniest Star Wars site on the web. Regrettably, it hasn't been updated for years, but what's there is hilarious in its own right.
